Kaleidoscope Scent Index · Q1 2026
Eric's
Q1 Favorites.
Every quarter I put together a list of the bottles that actually stayed in rotation. Not sponsored opinions, not borrowed hype, just the ones that kept making it off the shelf. January through March is the only stretch of the year where the heaviest things in the collection make sense, so this list runs warm: tobacco, amber, coffee, cocoa, resin and cold powdery iris. Every one of these fifteen is in stock right now as a 2ml, hand decanted by us. Wear it for a week before you commit to a bottle.

Tobacco Vanille
Tobacco Leaf · Ginger · Spices · Cocoa · Dry Fruit · Tonka Bean · Sweet Wood Sap · Vanilla
The one everybody names when you say winter, and it earns the reputation. Tobacco leaf and spice sit in cocoa, dried fruit and tonka until the whole thing reads as pipe smoke and dessert at once. It fills a warm room fast, so two sprays in January is plenty. Start here if you are building a cold weather rotation from zero.

In Stock · 2ml Maison Francis Kurkdjian
Grand Soir
Cistus Labdanum · Lavandin · Cinnamon Leaf · Clove · Benzoin · Amber · Vanilla
Amber with the lights turned down. Labdanum and benzoin do the heavy lifting while cinnamon and clove keep the vanilla from going flat and edible. This is the most wearable fragrance on the list and the one least likely to bother anyone in a small room, which is exactly why it sells the way it does.

In Stock · 2ml Les Indémodables
Café Arabesque
Brazilian Coffee · Cocoa · Hazelnut · Licorice · Siam Benzoin · New Caledonian Sandalwood
Coffee treated as perfumery instead of as a novelty. The Brazilian coffee reads roasted and slightly bitter, hazelnut and cocoa round the edges, and Siam benzoin with sandalwood stops the base collapsing into syrup. If every other coffee fragrance has smelled like a dessert menu to you, this is the correction.

In Stock · 2ml Extra Virgo
Cacao Ritual
Cacao Absolute · Moroccan Jasmine · Cinnamon · Clove · Indian Patchouli · Civet · Castoreum
Chocolate with an animal underneath it. Cacao absolute goes in dry and unsweetened, jasmine lifts it, then civet and castoreum drag the base somewhere far darker than the name suggests. Michele Marin is not making a comfort scent here. Wear it when you want to be asked what it is.

In Stock · 2ml Dior
Dior Homme Intense
Lavender · Iris · Ambrette · Pear · Virginia Cedar · Vetiver
Iris, cold and powdery, with a lipstick quality that still splits a room fifteen years on. Lavender and pear soften the opening before cedar and vetiver dry the whole thing out. Under ten dollars for a 2ml, and it is still the benchmark every other iris gets measured against.

In Stock · 2ml Francesca Bianchi
The Dark Side
Honey · Iris · Violet · Styrax · Incense · Patchouli · Sandalwood · Amber · Vanilla
Honey and iris over styrax and incense, thick enough to feel like a coat. Bianchi composes at extrait strength and this one projects for hours off a single spray. Sweet, dirty and slightly retro. Sample before you commit, because it wears you as much as you wear it.

In Stock · 2ml Argos
Triumph of Bacchus
Saffron · Rum · Green Apple · White Peach · Patchouli · Tonka Bean · Tobacco · Mysore Sandalwood · Vanilla
Rum poured over stone fruit and tobacco. The extrait is denser and less fizzy than the eau de parfum, which is the right call once it gets cold. Saffron gives the opening a metallic edge that keeps the fruit from turning jammy, and the sandalwood base holds it together into the evening.

In Stock · 2ml Naomi Goodsir
Or du Sérail
Mango · Sweet Orange · Rum · Davana · Beeswax · Honey · Turkish Tobacco · Labdanum · Cedar
Tobacco soaked in fruit and beeswax. Davana and mango make the opening almost overripe, then Turkish tobacco and labdanum pull everything into something warm and faintly sticky. Duchaufour built it to be divisive for five minutes and beautiful by the second hour, and that is exactly how it plays.

In Stock · 2ml Sarah Baker Perfumes
Velvet Vendetta
Gunsmoke · Pink Pepper · Nutmeg · Dried Fruits · Bourbon · Black Olive · Tobacco · Molasses · Vanilla
Gunsmoke, bourbon and molasses, which is a stranger combination in the bottle than it looks on paper. Margaux Le Paih Guérin puts black olive in the middle and it turns briny and savoury right where most vanillas would go soft. Theatrical, and February is the month for it.

Encens Suave
Omani Frankincense · Cistus Labdanum · Benzoin · Coffee · Vanilla
Five materials and no filler. Omani frankincense against benzoin and vanilla, with a shot of coffee keeping it from turning churchy. Aurélien Guichard builds around one raw material at a time and you can smell the restraint in the first minute. The cleanest incense on this list.

In Stock · 2ml Serge Lutens
Santal Majuscule
Rose · Rosewood · Tonka Bean · Sandalwood · Cocoa
Sandalwood, rose and cocoa in a milky blend that improves the colder it gets outside. It sits close to the skin rather than projecting, so it works in an office where half this list would not. One of the few Lutens that new collectors like on the first wear.

In Stock · 2ml Xerjoff
Naxos
Lemon · Bergamot · Lavender · Honey · Cinnamon · Jasmine Sambac · Tobacco Leaf · Vanilla · Tonka Bean
Honeyed tobacco with a bright lavender opening that stops it going heavy too early. It is sweet, unapologetically, and it performs for eight hours and then some. If you have been told you smell too serious all winter, this is the fastest way to fix that.

In Stock · 2ml Amouage
Lustre
Cardamom · Orris · Patchouli · Sandalwood · Cedar · Benzoin · Labdanum · Vanilla · Cypriol · Styrax · Tonka · Myrrh
A powdery, resinous Amouage that reads antique in the best sense. Orris and cardamom sit over myrrh, styrax and benzoin, all of it soft edged instead of sharp. Quieter than most of the house, and the one I keep reaching for on gray afternoons when nothing loud sounds appealing.

In Stock · 2ml Tiziana Terenzi
Chiron
Tonka Bean · Vanilla Orchid · Tobacco · Ambergris · Palo Santo · White Oud · Sandalwood · Bourbon Vanilla
Vanilla and tonka with palo santo running underneath, so the sweetness always has smoke behind it. Terenzi builds for projection and this one fills a car without any effort at all. Comforting, but never soft. Two sprays maximum unless you want it announcing you.

In Stock · 2ml Hellenist
Les Bras de Morphée
Violet Leaf · Peach · Heliotrope · Orris · Violet · Hazel Wood · Vanilla · Tonka Bean · Cashmeran
Heliotrope, orris and almondy violet, closer to a cashmere blanket than to a perfume. It stays within arm's reach all day, which is the whole point of it. At under nine dollars for a 2ml it is the cheapest way to find out whether powdery is your genre.
Shop the 2ml · $8.99 →Every fragrance on this list is hand decanted by Kaleidoscope Scent Index from an authentic bottle into a 2ml atomizer, and ships from our Bentonville location. These are independent KSI decants, not manufacturer-produced samples. All samples are final sale. I only feature bottles I have personally worn and genuinely recommend. That is non negotiable.
