Every quarter I put together a list of the bottles that actually stayed in rotation. Not sponsored opinions, not borrowed hype, just the ones that kept making it off the shelf. October through December is the one stretch of the year where you can wear anything you own, and this list takes full advantage: saffron, oud, rose, cognac, resin and spice, most of it built for the evening. Every one of these fourteen is in stock right now as a 2ml, hand decanted by us. Wear it for a week before you commit to a bottle.

Enigma pour Homme
Bergamot · Mandarin · Rose de Mai · Cardamom · Ginger · Pepper · Cognac · Tobacco · Benzoin
Cognac and tobacco in a leather chair after midnight. Citrus and geranium clear out fast, then cardamom and ginger hand the whole thing to a base of cognac, tobacco, benzoin and vanilla. It projects for hours without ever going sharp, which is most of the argument for what it costs. If liqueur accords are not your thing, start further down this list.

Bijou Zafran
Saffron · Pear · Cypriol · Iris · Benzoin · Patchouli · Leather · Mineral Amber · Vanilla Bean
Saffron worn like jewelry rather than announced. Pear softens the opening before cypriol and iris pull it dry, then benzoin, patchouli and a leather accord settle into mineral amber. Most saffron fragrances go either loud or medicinal. This one stays low and faintly powdery, though skin that eats amber will lose it quickly.

A Night in Marrakesh
Cardamom · Almond · Coffee · Saffron · Blond Tobacco · Moroccan Rose · Olibanum · Honey · Cambodian Oud
Coffee and spice carried on night air through a souk. Cardamom and almond lead into coffee, blond tobacco, saffron and Moroccan rose, and the base runs long on amber, Cambodian oud, honey and castoreum. Closer to an attar than a Western eau de parfum, and unapologetically maximalist. The castoreum is the reason the drydown never turns into dessert.

Bengale Rouge
Turkish Rose · Orris · Honey · Opoponax · Labdanum · Oakmoss · Sandalwood · Tonka Bean · Vanilla
Rose and honey folded into something warm and softly animal. Turkish rose and orris rest on sandalwood while opoponax and labdanum build the resin, drying down through vanilla, tonka and benzoin. It wears close for the first hour and then opens up considerably. The most giftable bottle on this list, and the one most likely to get worn to death.

B683 Extrait
Green Apple · Saffron · Laotian Oud · Leather Accord · Sandalwood · Patchouli · Vanilla
Green apple bitten into over oud and old leather. Quentin Bisch did not make a stronger B683, he rewrote it. Acidic apple against natural Laotian oud is genuinely unusual, and the base turns into sandalwood, thick patchouli leather and vanilla. If the eau de parfum struck you as too well behaved, this is the corrective.

The name means darkness and the scent obliges. Cade, carrot seed and incense open smoky and powdery, osmanthus and peony sit oddly bright in the heart, and labdanum, vetiver, leather and sandalwood carry it down. Pairing tarry cade with apricot toned osmanthus should not work as well as it does. Meditative rather than pleasant.

Plum Spray Paint

Stewed plum and solvent in an unlit gallery. Cinnamon, pink pepper and saffron spike a heart of plum and jasmine before rum, whisky, leather and labdanum close it down. The spray paint accord gives the fruit a chemical edge that keeps it interesting past the first hour. It leans loud and sweet in the heat, so treat it as evening wear.

Palais Bourbon
Black Pepper · Cardamom · Cinnamon Bark · Incense · Benzoin · Peru Balsam · Vanilla · Guaiacwood · Vetiver
Spice and balsam in a room with high ceilings. Black pepper, cardamom and cinnamon bark move through incense into Peru balsam, benzoin, tonka and vanilla, grounded by sandalwood, guaiacwood and vetiver. Vanilla is present but never in charge. Formal and warm, and the vetiver is the only reason it does not go soft.

Thirty Three
Black Pepper · Candied Mandarin · Chinese White Tea · Taif Rose · Orris · Caoutchouc · Vintage Oud · Aged Patchouli
Oud distilled in 1980, finally uncorked. Soft black pepper and candied mandarin open over rubbery caoutchouc, then white tea, Taif rose and orris settle onto aged patchouli and a velvety vintage oud. The rare oud that reads soft instead of medicinal. Collectors chasing barnyard intensity should look elsewhere, but if oud usually reads abrasive to you, this is the way in.

Black Ambergris
Dark Chocolate · Incense · Resins · Balsams · Ambergris
Dark chocolate melting into salt and resin. The ambergris carries a salty, animalic weight underneath while incense and balsams fill out the drydown. The chocolate stays bittersweet and never tips into dessert, which is the hard part of this genre and the reason it works at all. Anyone expecting a clean marine ambergris will be caught off guard.

Vanilla with a backbone. Bergamot, blue ginger and pink pepper lead into blackcurrant, Turkish rose and cardamom, then patchouli, cedar, benzoin and sandalwood give the vanilla somewhere to sit. Cécile Zarokian keeps it dimensional from first spray to drydown, which is why it earns the attention. Under eleven dollars for the extrait.

Labyrinth of Spices
Turkish Coffee · Tobacco · Pineapple · Clove · Cinnamon · Cardamom · Anise · Oakmoss · Sandalwood
Coffee grounds, clove and tobacco all arguing at once. Turkish coffee and a flash of pineapple start it, clove, cinnamon, cardamom and anise crowd the middle, and oakmoss, vetiver and sandalwood pull the base toward fougere. Pineapple over coffee makes a strange, good opening. The spice heart is where it can go muddy, so wear it on skin first.

La Tierra del Rayo
Oakwood · Rose · Cork · Clove · Violet · Dates · Quince · Tobacco · Tonka
Wine country air after the storm has passed through. Oakwood, cork and rose set the frame while clove, violet, dates and quince push the fruit forward, and tobacco and tonka carry the drydown. The fruit reads fermented rather than fresh and the oak is barrel oak. Skip it if you want a clean woody scent. Take it if you like tobacco and dark fruit.

A spice market on one bank, a tannery on the other. Pink pepper, cardamom and elemi open sharp, then leather, bran absolute, thyme and iris build an unusually dry heart before oud, myrrh and cashmeran land. The bran and iris give it a powdery, almost cereal texture you rarely meet in a spice fragrance. Nine dollars, and the strangest thing here.
