The Method

Layering is not mixing two favourites

Two fragrances you love can cancel each other out. What actually works is giving each one a job. Every suggestion here is one of three moves.

Double Down

Two fragrances that share the same anchor, oud with oud, vanilla with vanilla. The shared accord gets denser and lasts longer, and the differences around it keep the result from reading flat. This is how you make something feel expensive rather than loud.

Lift It

A heavy base with something bright laid over the top. Citrus, salt, green, tea. The opening breathes again while the base stays exactly where it was. Run it the other way when your pick is the light one and it needs a floor to stand on.

Bridge

One shared accord so the two blend instead of fight, plus something new in the middle where your fragrance goes quiet. Usually a floral, a spice or a resin. This is the move that turns a good scent into one nobody can place.

Heavy Goes First Spray the denser fragrance on skin, then the lighter one over it. Reverse that and the heavy one simply eats the other.
Two To One Start at two sprays of the fragrance you want to lead and one of the partner. Layering is easy to overdo and impossible to undo.
Give It A Minute Let the first fragrance settle before the second goes on. Wet on wet muddies both openings.
