Patchouli, cypriol and Virginia cedar open sharp and smoky, with a raw, almost fecal edge from birch essence and castoreum that takes real time to settle. Assam oud and Madagascar vanilla absolute pull it into a smoother, ambered drydown that keeps the smoke in the background.

KSI Take: This is one of Amouage's more challenging Library releases, built on real birch tar and castoreum rather than a polished mainstream oud, and it will put off anyone who wants their oud sweet or safe. Wear it in cold weather in the evening and give it thirty minutes before judging it, since the opening is rougher than the eventual drydown.
