Saffron, pink pepper and black pepper open over agarwood smoke, with elemi, anise and agarwood ketones giving the top an almost medicinal edge. Taif, Bulgarian and Turkish rose stack through the heart against Hojari frankincense, tobacco, honey and heliotrope. Benzoin, opoponax, vetiver, ambergris, amber, musk, tonka bean, leather, vanilla and both Filipino and Maroke agarwood close it dense and resinous.

KSI Take: An Elixir Attar and Katana collaboration, and the most ambitious composition either name has attached itself to, with a note list that reads more like a materials budget than a pyramid. Two things to know before you commit. It comes only in 30ml, so it is a smaller bottle at a far higher price than the rest of the Katana line, and it sits in the house's Collection Naturelle rather than the 50ml Collection Oriental. And the density that makes it impressive also makes it the wrong choice for warm weather or close quarters. Cold months, evenings, one spray.
