Shamama and tobacco in an amber that stays dark.

A green accord, herbal notes and saffron open with a gentle bitterness. Frangipani, magnolia, Indian shamama and tobacco build the heart, the tobacco lending a sweet woody warmth, and an Indian amber accord, a marine amber note, Indian sandalwood, tonka bean and Madagascar vanilla finish it velvety and faintly smoky.

KSI Take: Shamama is a traditional Indian attar base distilled from dozens of herbs and spices, and almost nobody outside the subcontinent builds with it, which is what gives this an unfamiliar depth no western amber reaches. The trade is that shamama is genuinely odd, herbal and slightly medicinal, so it is not an easy first wear, and the marine amber note sits strangely against the tobacco for the first half hour. Evening, cold weather.
