Bergamot, jungle pepper and pink pepper open sparkling and hot before apricot and jasmine sambac turn it fleshy. Madagascar, New Guinea and red vanilla fill the heart with ylang-ylang alongside, and Cambodian and Trat oud close it over benzoin, birch tar, labdanum and Peru balsam.

KSI Take: Using three vanillas instead of one gives this real dimension, and the birch tar keeps the whole thing from collapsing into dessert the way most vanilla ouds do by the second hour. It is also the most crowd-pleasing thing the house makes, which means it is the least distinctive, so if you already own a good sweet oud this will feel familiar rather than new. Cold weather, evening.
