Elemi, Madagascan pink pepper and Moroccan artemisia open it sharp and bitter green, a bloody rose sits in the middle with Egyptian geranium and osmanthus pulling it toward leather and apricot, and Somali olibanum, cistus and guaiacwood close it down resinous and smoky.

KSI Take: The artemisia opening is bracing and genuinely unusual for a rose, closer to bitter herbs than to anything floral, and it is the reason to try this. The trade-off is that the first ten minutes are austere enough to put some people off before the rose turns up. It also leans darker and more unisex than the bottle suggests. Wear it in the evening in cool weather, when you want a rose with some menace in it.
