Blackcurrant, rose and lemon open tart and bright, then apple, sea notes and coriander keep the middle fresh and faintly saline. The base goes in the opposite direction entirely: ambergris, animal notes and benzoin under sandalwood, patchouli, vanilla and hazelnut.

KSI Take: The whole fragrance is the distance between those two halves, and that is also the risk. Anyone who buys it for the crisp fruity marine opening should know it lands somewhere much warmer, sweeter and more animal an hour later, and the people who dislike it tend to be the ones who wanted the top to stay. Give it a full hour before deciding, and wear it in cooler weather where the base has room to work.
