Six Animals.
Six Perfumers.
One Polish Forest.
Wolf Brothers came out of the Bieszczady Mountains in 2019 with a collection of animals, a founding family whose surname already meant wolf, and a different nose in Grasse for every single bottle.
House Spotlight
The joke is in the name, and you only get it in Polish. The founding brothers are called Wilk, which means wolf. Wolf Brothers is not a marketing conceit. It is their surname, translated.
The house comes from the Bieszczady Mountains in the far southeast of Poland, a thinly populated range of old forest that still has bears, bison and wolves in it. Four people started it in 2019: Wiktor Wilk and his brother Szymon Wilk, plus Łukasz Markiewicz, who art directs the bottles and the visual identity, and Piotr Romański, originally a neighbour, now running the commercial side. They began by making perfumed soy candles and only afterwards moved into fragrance.
Here is the detail that makes the collection click. Each of the four goes by an animal nickname: Wiktor is Wolf, Szymon is Bear, Łukasz is Boar, Piotr is Wisent. Four of the six animals in the debut collection are the founders themselves. Nobody has to tell you which bottle belongs to whom.
Transmit Slav history by scent.
That is Wiktor's own phrasing, from a Q and A published by the US sampling retailer Olfactif, and it is the closest thing to a mission statement the house has put on record. The brand's tagline is blunter still: wild, Slavic, fragrances. In the same conversation he points out that Nordic myth has been thoroughly mined while the Slavic material has not, which is a fair observation and became the second collection.
The composition happens a long way from the Bieszczady. Wiktor describes working with a partner in France, and every retailer who stocks the line says the same thing: the perfumers are in Grasse. What none of them say is which company, and the brand does not publish perfumer credits on its own product pages at all. Every attribution below is assembled from the stockists who do name names, chiefly Bloom Perfumery in London, and where two of them name a nose independently they agree every time.
The striking thing, once you line them up, is that no perfumer signed two animals. Six bottles, six different people. At least two of them, Laurent Marrone and Valérie Bessone, trained and work at Argeville in Grasse, and Cyrill Rolland, who wrote the one credited fragrance in the newer collection, is a perfumer at Mane. So this is not a single lab handing out briefs. It looks like a house that commissions per bottle, the way Azman does, which is still rare enough to be worth pointing at.
One note on reception, because we would rather you heard it here. The only substantial independent review of this house, by the critic Persolaise in January 2023, was largely unimpressed, with Goat the clear exception. We disagree on several of them and our reasons are in the cards below, but a house this polarising deserves to be introduced honestly rather than oversold.
Animals of the Polish Forest
The debut. Wolf, Wisent and Bear arrived first, in December 2020; Deer, Boar and Goat followed in October 2021. Each one takes a single animal and the ground it walks on, and each went to a different perfumer. They run from genuinely office safe at one end to a barnyard at the other, so read the warnings. They are ordered here from easiest to hardest.

Wolf
Jennifer Jambon · 2ml $10.99 · 50ml $155The forest, worn lighter. Red pepper, davana, plum and cardamom open dark and fruity, then pine, balsam fir, vetiver, clary sage, myrrh, cedar and olibanum fill the middle, and oakmoss, leather, tonka and amber close it warm. The house original and the most wearable thing they make, clean enough for an office in a lineup that mostly is not. Two things before you choose it over the extrait: projection is the recurring complaint, commonly gone inside two hours, and it sits near enough to Sauvage Eau Forte that people say so unprompted.
Red Pepper · Davana · Plum · Cardamom · Pine · Balsam Fir · Vetiver · Clary Sage · Myrrh · Olibanum · Oakmoss · Leather · Tonka Bean
Wisent
Valérie Bessone · 2ml $10.99 · 50ml $155Hay and acorns turning to vanilla. Blackcurrant leaf, blackberry leaf and grapefruit open green and tart, hay, acorn and grass fill a dry nutty middle, and vanilla carries the entire back half alone. The gentlest thing in a range built mostly on fur and tar, and the hay and acorn accord is genuinely comforting. It is also the simplest: the green opening is gone in about twenty minutes and what remains develops very little. Buy it as an easy cold weather skin scent, not as the animal portrait the bison on the box is promising.
Blackcurrant Leaf · Blackberry Leaf · Grapefruit · Hay · Acorn · Grass · Vanilla
Bear
Laure Santantoni · 2ml $10.99 · 50ml $155Raw honey and propolis over cinnamon bark. Woods, cinnamon and ginger open warm and dry, propolis, honey and iris build a heart that reads waxy and almost hive like rather than sugary, and cedar, bark, labdanum and vanilla settle it furry. The propolis is the best accord in the entire house, raw and faintly animal where most honey fragrances head straight for dessert, and this is the one release here we would hand to someone cautious. The drydown is where it loses people: after a few hours the character thins into a pleasant but ordinary warm skin scent.
Cinnamon · Ginger · Propolis · Honey · Iris · Cedar · Bark · Labdanum · Vanilla
Boar
Marie-Cécile Dor · 2ml $10.99 · 50ml $155Truffle and damp moss under a fur coat. Apple and geranium open bright and slightly odd against what follows, moss, conifer and truffle fill the middle with real forest floor weight, and leather, a fur accord, woods and vetiver close it animal. If you want mushroom, wet earth and fur rendered properly rather than merely suggested, this is the most committed version of it in the range and quietly one of the best things they have done. It is also not a fragrance for an office, a dinner, or anyone standing close to you, and the apple opening splits people hard.
Apple · Geranium · Moss · Conifer · Truffle · Leather · Fur Accord · Woods · Vetiver
Deer
Vanessa Prudent · 2ml $10.99 · 50ml $155Coffee, cumin and tobacco in a hay barn. Clary sage, tobacco, mint, cumin, coffee and pistachio open dense and strange, hay, cedar and patchouli carry a dry rustling middle, and leather with musk closes it close to the body. The most distinctive thing the house makes, and coffee against cumin and tobacco is a genuinely original accord that nobody else is attempting at this money. It is also the one we would most insist you sample first, because the opening is physically difficult for a meaningful number of people. If it works on you it is remarkable. If it does not, you will know fast.
Clary Sage · Tobacco · Mint · Cumin · Coffee · Pistachio · Hay · Cedar · Patchouli · Leather · Musk
Goat
Laurent Marrone · 2ml $10.99 · 50ml $155Goat's milk and mushroom over fur and oud. A goat's milk accord opens with mushroom, truffle, osmanthus and violet leaf, lactic and strange at once, then conifer, patchouli, cedar, cumin and clove build the middle and fur, leather, moss, costus, oud and vetiver finish it properly animal. The most talked about fragrance in the house and the one that proves the concept, because the milk and barnyard are built with real craft rather than played for shock. It is the single release Persolaise singled out for praise. Two honest warnings: it is a barnyard, and there is a line past which it reads as manure, which some people cross on the first spray.
Goat's Milk · Mushroom · Truffle · Osmanthus · Violet Leaf · Conifer · Cumin · Clove · Fur · Leather · Moss · Costus · OudSlavic Myths
The 2025 collection leaves the animals for Slavic myth and runs colder, wetter and stranger than the originals. It is also dosed unusually high for eau de parfum, at twenty five percent on Moko and twenty on Mora. Worth saying plainly: the house credits a perfumer on only one of these three. Mora is Cyrill Rolland of Mane. For Moko and Veles no source anywhere names a nose, so we are not going to guess at one.

Moko
Perfumer not published · 2ml $12.99 · 50ml $185Wet soil and raspberry under a fig tree. Raspberry, a water accord, fig leaf and Akigalawood open cool and green with the fruit kept tart rather than jammy, lily of the valley, salicylate and cedarwood build a damp floral middle, and sandalwood, ambroxan and oakmoss finish it dry. The petrichor effect is as photorealistic as the genre gets and it is the reason to own this rather than another blue fragrance. The salicylate is the risk: on some skin it tips from mineral toward something closer to cleaning product. Wear it in heat.
Raspberry · Water Accord · Fig Leaf · Akigalawood · Lily of the Valley · Cedarwood · Sandalwood · Ambroxan · Oakmoss
Mora
Cyrill Rolland · 2ml $12.99 · 50ml $185Rain on cold rock, then peppercorns. Thyme, Sichuan pepper, red pepper, a water accord and grapefruit open prickling and cold, marsh labrador tea, cypress, geranium, cardamom and hemp carry a damp green middle, and vetiver, incense, leather and fir balsam ground the finish. The wet stone effect is convincing and marsh labrador tea is a material almost nobody else is using. It is also the sharpest thing in the range and reads medicinal to a lot of people, closer to a clinic than a forest for the first twenty minutes, and at twenty percent it is the softest performer of the three. Buy it for the materials.
Thyme · Sichuan Pepper · Grapefruit · Marsh Labrador Tea · Cypress · Cardamom · Hemp · Vetiver · Incense · Fir Balsam
Veles
Perfumer not published · 2ml $12.99 · 50ml $185Wet earth, tar and honey under fog. Ginger, saffron, rhubarb and honey sit over smoke, tonka, patchouli and labdanum, with oud, birch tar, leather and ambergris running underneath from the first minute rather than arriving late. The house inverts the usual structure here so the tar and oud land before the sweetness does, and that is either the most interesting thing they have made or an assault, depending entirely on who you ask. Be clear which you are. The opening is genuinely harsh, birch tar dominates the first half hour, and anyone who owns Black Afghano already owns most of this. Cold evenings, one spray.
Ginger · Saffron · Rhubarb · Honey · Smoke · Tonka Bean · Patchouli · Labdanum · Oud · Birch Tar · LeatherThe Anniversary Rework
Worth being precise about, because it is widely misdescribed. This is not the Wolf eau de parfum at a higher strength. It revisits the original composition with amber and leather pushed forward and the pine, vetiver and oakmoss deepened, at a higher oil load. It was released in 2024 to mark the house's fifth year, in a worldwide run of 1,232 hand numbered bottles.

Wolf Extrait de Parfum
Jennifer Jambon · 2ml $14.99 · 50ml $215Cold pine forest with something breathing in it. Red pepper, cardamom, davana, clary sage and smoked plum open sharp and dark, fir balsam, pine, vetiver, myrrh and incense fill the middle like fog with cedar underneath, and leather, oakmoss, ambergris and tonka bring the animal warmth. This is the best thing the house makes and the only one where the leather and resin get the density the concept always wanted. Two warnings worth the money you are about to spend: the oil load is heavy enough that the atomizer can spray poorly, and the fir runs well ahead of the pine, so if you came for a sharp conifer this is softer and furrier than advertised.

A house this divisive is one you should audition rather than commit to, and conveniently Wolf Brothers boxes its own collections. These are manufacturer filled and sealed vials, not our hand decants, in the brand's own presentation boxes. Each set maps exactly onto one of the collections above.

The Wild Set
The animal line · 6 x 2ml $35The whole animal line in one box. Wolf, Bear, Wisent, Deer, Boar and Goat, each sealed in the house's own 2ml vial. The honest way into a house this polarising, and the only sensible way to find out whether Goat and Boar work on you before committing to a bottle. Deer and Goat are the two most likely to stop you cold, in either direction, so meet them here rather than at full price.
Wolf · Bear · Wisent · Deer · Boar · Goat
The Slavic Set
The 2025 trio · 3 x 2ml $30The 2025 collection, all three. Moko, Mora and Veles in the brand's own box. Veles is the reason to buy this and also the one most likely to offend, so meeting it in 2ml is the right order of operations. Moko and Mora read almost identically on paper, both mineral and damp, and land quite differently on skin, which is the other argument for taking all three at once.
Moko · Mora · VelesHow to hear a house
- Start with a set, not a bottle. The animal line swings from office safe to barnyard, and no description will tell you which side of Goat you land on. Thirty five dollars answers it.
- Wolf is the gateway and Goat is the thesis. If you only try two, try those. One proves they can make something wearable, the other proves why anyone cares.
- Deer is the gamble. Coffee, cumin and tobacco is an accord nobody else is making. It is also the one most likely to be physically unpleasant on first spray.
- The extrait is a different composition. Not stronger Wolf, reworked Wolf, with the amber and leather brought forward. If the EDP almost worked for you, this is the version that finishes the job.
- The Slavic three want cold and damp. They are mineral and wet by design. Moko is the exception and actually wants heat.
- Two of them have no named perfumer. That is the house, not a gap in our records. Moko and Veles are credited to nobody anywhere we could find.
- Performance is the common complaint. Several of these sit close and fade early, the Wolf EDP especially. Price them as what they are, not as all day projection.
