The House Is
Sold Out.
We Are Not.
Maison Jaxob is one self taught perfumer filling every bottle by hand in small batches. Six of his nine are sold out at the source with return dates in 2027. We still have twenty two full bottles and sixty one travel bottles on the shelf, and some of them deserve far more attention than they are getting.
House Spotlight
Here is the situation, stated plainly, because it is the whole reason for this post. Maison Jaxob has sold through almost its entire line. Go to the house directly right now and six of the nine carry a sold out notice with a return date: three come back in October, three not until January 2027. The discovery set is gone. The travel set is gone.
We have stock. Not a lot, and not of everything, but real bottles sitting on a real shelf. And the thing that has surprised us is which ones are moving.
Philosopher's Veil sold out of full bottles here in three weeks. It is the cheapest thing the house makes and it left first. Meanwhile Poet's Potion, which we have more of than anything else, has not sold a single full bottle. Neither has Forbidden Sketch, which happens to contain the most expensive raw material in the entire range. That is not a verdict on the perfumes. That is what happens when nine bottles arrive at once from a house nobody has written about.
“My work is slow because honesty takes time. I distill until the feeling becomes clear.”
So, the house. Jacob Chimoni founded Maison Jaxob in 2017 and, in the brand's own words, is an independent, self taught perfumer working entirely by hand. That single sentence is the complete published biography. There is no school, no apprenticeship, no mentor, no interview, no press profile. We looked hard. For a house nine years old, the absence of coverage is itself the story.
What there is instead is an unusual amount of technical candour. Most houses stop at the word extrait. Jacob prints the number: Favourite Sin at 28 percent, Dramatic Pause at 31, Forbidden Sketch at 32. Forbidden Sketch goes further and lists its orris butter as 13 percent irones, which is the trade's own quality and price metric for the most expensive natural material in perfumery, and which essentially nobody puts on a product page. The forthcoming tenth fragrance lists its aroma chemicals by name, pyrazine included. This is not a naturals house pretending to purity. It is a transparent one, which is rarer and more useful.
Every composition is developed over months or years, macerated naturally, then hand filled and inspected before it leaves the atelier. That is why the house runs out. It is also why the prices sit between two hundred and sixty five and six hundred and ninety five dollars.
The Overlooked
These five are available right now in 100 mL, with and without the outer box. The without option is the same bottle, same juice, thirty five to sixty dollars less, and it is the smarter buy unless you are giving it as a gift. The first two on this list have not sold a single full bottle, which we think is a mistake worth correcting.
Poet's Potion
$265 Unboxed · $290 Boxed · 14ml $70Seven full bottles on the shelf and not one has sold. Pipe tobacco lit through myrrh and frankincense, dark honey, Indian patchouli, then a drydown of bitter aged vanilla wrapped in amber, Cambodian oud and birch. The vanilla here reads bitter rather than sweet, which is exactly why it has been passed over and exactly why it is good. Bohemian, a little unruly, ink stained. Cold evenings.
Pipe Tobacco · Myrrh · Aged Vanilla · Cambodian Oud · Birch
Forbidden Sketch
$290 Unboxed · $325 Boxed · 14ml $75Two full bottles left, zero sold. Moroccan orris butter at 13 percent irones, buttery and enormous, warmed by praline, myrrh and vanilla pods over bourbon vetiver and a dusting of cacao. At 32 percent it is the most concentrated thing here. Warm weather pulls the woods forward, cold brings up the cacao. Graphite smudged with resin.
Orris Butter · Praline · Myrrh · Vetiver · Cacao
Devil's Breath
$450 Unboxed · $510 Boxed · 14ml $105Three full bottles, and ten travel bottles nobody has touched. Blackcurrant struck through with smoke, then black coffee, tobacco absolute and black honey over labdanum, sandalwood, oud, civet and ambergris. The loudest thing the house makes and the one it is proudest of. Not for the timid. Spray it twice, not six times.
Blackcurrant · Black Coffee · Tobacco Absolute · Oud · Civet
Dramatic Pause
$325 Unboxed · $370 Boxed · 14ml $80Six full bottles, our deepest stock. Cold pink pepper, orange blossom and olibanum, then burning bakhoor with clove and cardamom, crushed dark grapes going faintly fermented, and a finish that is creamy and bone dry at once. The house structures the copy in four movements and the perfume actually earns that. Startling for the first twenty minutes.
Olibanum · Bakhoor · Cardamom · Grapes · Sandalwood
Favourite Sin
$290 Unboxed · $325 Boxed · 14ml $75Four full bottles. English pepper and bruised plum skin into Turkish rose absolute, dark rum, myrrh and black tea, finishing on Ethiopian frankincense, styrax and charred cedar. The rose is devotional rather than romantic. The travel bottles here are the one format that has actually moved, which tells you people who try it buy it.
Plum Skin · Turkish Rose · Dark Rum · Black Tea · Charred CedarTravel Size Only
These two sold their full bottles and the house cannot resupply until January. The 14 mL travel bottle, in the embossed leather pouch, is the only way to own either one right now. That is not a consolation prize. It is roughly a hundred and forty sprays of a 28 to 32 percent parfum.
Philosopher's Veil
14ml Travel $70 · Eight LeftThe one that sold out first, and the cheapest the house makes. Silver French lavender, wild oregano, ginger root and juniper, bracing and almost medicinal for twenty minutes, then davana goes liquid gold and myrrh and vanilla pods melt the herbs into a glow. Oakmoss underneath. The only thing here you could wear to work.
French Lavender · Wild Oregano · Davana · Myrrh · Oakmoss
Asanti
14ml Travel $70 · Nine LeftCardamom, molten spiced apple and a sangria accord with blood orange and clove, then roasted coffee, dark rum and black caramel, landing on myrrh, patchouli, oud and tonka. Sweetness refined until it reads as warmth rather than dessert. The most immediately likeable thing in the range, and the full bottles went fast.
Spiced Apple · Sangria · Roasted Coffee · Dark Rum · TonkaSamples Only
The two most expensive fragrances Jacob makes are gone at the source. We hold a handful of 2.5 mL samples of each. When the next batch is finished they come back to us, and if you have sampled you will know whether to move.
Impure Thoughts
2.5ml Sample $30 · Six LeftThe reason it costs what it costs: three ouds, sourced separately. Cambodian first, dry and smoky. Indian next, thick and buttery and frankly animalic. Laotian underneath, deeper and hotter. Then aged vanilla tincture, Tahitian vanilla, tolu balsam, Cypriot labdanum, jasmine sambac and patchouli the house says is ten years old. Jacob says cold weather only and means it.
Cambodian Oud · Indian Oud · Laotian Oud · Aged Vanilla · Labdanum
Afterimage
2.5ml Sample $20 · Five LeftPink pepper and dark rum in resinous myrrh, then a dry vanilla built two ways at once: a CO2 extract and a tincture steeped inside a dried oak barrel. Honey, coffee, molten labdanum, worn leather, Haitian vetiver, a veil of smoke, finishing in cashmere and suede musk. It sits close to the skin after the first hour. Buy it for the people standing near you, not for projection.
Dark Rum · Oak Barrel Vanilla · Leather · Labdanum · Suede MuskHow to Start
- Take the travel bottle. Sixty one of them are sitting here across seven fragrances, at $70 to $105. Jacob does not sell single 14 mL bottles on his own site, only multipacks, so this format essentially does not exist anywhere else. Fourteen millilitres of a parfum this concentrated is months of wearing, not a sniff.
- If you want a full bottle, take it unboxed. Identical bottle, identical juice, no outer carton, thirty five to sixty dollars cheaper. We would rather you put that toward a second fragrance.
- Start with Poet's Potion or Forbidden Sketch. Not because we are sitting on them, though we are. Because the tobacco and the orris are the two most interesting things in the range and both have been walked past by people heading for the obvious.
- Do not wait on the sold out ones. Impure Thoughts and Afterimage return to the house in October, Philosopher's Veil and Asanti not until January 2027. Everything is hand filled one batch at a time. There is no warehouse behind this.
